Skin Detox for Clear and Healthy Skin
Clear, glowing skin requires more than skin care products which only work on the surface. Skin detox can help promote clear skin from the inside of your body. Clear skin can signify a healthy and toxin-free body while acne, dry skin, oily skin, enlarged pores, and sallow skin can be signs of toxins in your body. Your skin and body easily absorb toxins directly from the environment. Your body can release toxins through pores. However, pollutant particles, natural oils, and cosmetics can clog the pores so toxins cannot be eliminated.
Skin detox helps eliminate toxins from the skin. It is one of effective tips for glowing skin. Skin detox is not a one-time treatment. To maintain healthy clear skin, you should use detoxification methods on a regular basis.
Drink a lot of water
Your body needs clean water for detoxification. A water detox dilutes toxins and flushes them out your body. Water also delivers nutrients, hormones, and chemical substances throughout our tissues and body system.
Drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning will stimulate the body’s natural detoxifying processes. To do the lemon water, just squeeze half a lemon into a glass of warm water. Continue to drink 6 – 8 glasses of pure water throughout the rest of the day.
Regular exercise is important to stimulate sweating which is considered one of the most efficient ways of eliminating toxins and dirt from the skin. Sweating removes chemical toxins faster than other detox methods. Sweat often has a higher concentration of trace elements such as nickel, cadmium, and mercury than urine does. Exercise also increases blood and lymph circulation which results in cleansing or detoxification of the body. The blood and lymphatic fluids also distribute essential nutrients to the cells. To get glowing skin, you should exercise for at least 30 minutes three times a week.
Sauna is another way to stimulate sweating. It has been claimed that 15 minutes of sweating in a sauna removes as much toxin as 24 hours of normal kidney function. A sauna also increases blood circulation. So go to a sauna once a week if you can. However, consult your doctor if you are pregnant, have heart problems, or have high blood pressure. If you have visible broken capillaries on your face, do not do this treatment. It is also important to drink two glasses of water before a sauna session and at least two glasses of water after the sauna to make up for lost fluids and rehydrate your body.
If you cannot go to a sauna, you can steam your face over a bowl of boiling water. A facial steam is one of steps of how to do a facial at home. It is a sauna for the face. Steam your face once a week for about 5-10 minutes. If you have oily skin, you can do it twice a week.
Dry Skin Brushing
Dry skin brushing removes the build up of dead skin cells; improves blood and lymph flow; enhances toxin elimination; and combats cellulite. Use a natural bristle brush with a long handle or a loofah. Perform on dry skin before your bath or shower. Start at your feet and always brush toward your heart. Brush the legs, then buttocks, and then the chest and stomach. Do dry skin brushing 3-5 times a week for clear skin and cellulite reduction.
Detox bath is used to detox heavy metals and other chemicals from the skin. Fill a bathtub with hot water. Dissolve two cups of baking soda and two cups of Epsom salts in the hot water. Then soak in the tub for about 20 – 30 minutes.
Regular bathing is also essential to remove the toxins the skin has released and to open the pores to eliminate more.
Detoxification diet flushes toxins out of your body. Avoid foods that can cause toxin. These foods include hydrogenated vegetable oils (trans fats), sugar, caffeine, alcohol, red meat, excess dairy, processed foods, and refined carbohydrates. Increase consumption of filtered water, herb teas, fruits, and vegetables and other fiber rich foods.
