How to Get Shiny Hair?

Everyone wants to have healthy, shiny hair. Many contributing factors cause the hair to lose it shine. Learn what causes dull hair and how to make your hair shine.

– Over shampooing and conditioning: These can lead to hair product buildup. The buildup of excessive shampoo and conditioner makes the hair look dull.

– Chemical treatments: Hair coloring and perming can cause dry and damaged hair. Dry hair cannot reflect light poorly.

– Poor diet: Vitamin A and E deficiencies cause dry hair. Vitamin A helps the scalp produce natural oils. Vitamin E helps the blood circulation in the scalp and replenishes lost moisture in the hair.

– Environmental elements: Sun, wind, and water dehydrates the hair, making it dry and dull.

– Excessive combing or brushing: Combing and brushing can wear away the protective hair cuticle. The cuticle layer helps maintain its moisture balance and gives hair strength and shine.

– Heated appliances: Curling and straightening irons strip moisture from the hair, resulting in dry hair.

Shiny Hair Home Remedies

– Apple cider vinegar hair or lemon juice rinse: Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice can remove dirt and hair product buildup and add shine to your hair. Mix 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice with one quart of water. After shampooing hair and rinsing well, apply the rinse to your hair. Leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Vinegar and lemon juice are acidic so use the rinse once a week at most.

– Espresso hair mask: Espresso rinse is a good alternative to apple cider vinegar rinse. Brew one cup of espresso and let it cool. Pour the rinse over your dry hair and leave on for 10 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.

– Mayonnaise & avocado hair mask: Mix half of mashed avocado and one cup of mayo. Apply the mask to your hair and then leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.

– Egg & Olive oil treatment: Mix two whole eggs with four tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the treatment to your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap. Leave for 15 minutes. Wash off thoroughly. This mask is one of effective dry hair home remedies.

Shiny Hair Tips

– Limit the use of heated appliances to four times a week at most.

– Avoid using chemicals as much as possible. Limit the use of chemical treatment to once every 8 to 10 weeks at most.

– Rinse your hair under cold water after conditioning to close the cuticle.

– Use products for color treated hair if you have colored your hair. Such products make your hair shiny and prevent hair color from fading.

– Brush or comb your hair to spreads natural oils produced in the scalp to the end of your hair. Natural oils make your hair shiny. Don’t over brush or comb your hair though.

– Eat foods rich in vitamin A and E. Sources of vitamin A are orange colored fruits and green vegetables. Vitamin E can be found in nuts, raw seeds, vegetable oils and green leafy vegetables.

– Apply a deep hair treatment or shiny hair home remedy once a week.
